BOSTON (AP) - Unvaccinated dogs and cats possibly exposed to rabies will spend just four months in quarantine instead of six months as part of a sweeping effort by Gov. Charlie Baker to update Massachusetts regulations.
The change brings Massachusetts in line with national recommendations. It was hailed Monday by officials at the Animal Rescue League of Boston and other shelters who say it will make it easier to find homes for dogs and cats with wounds of unknown origin.
Baker says the change was one result of his administration’s review of 1,700 executive branch regulations, most of which have been created since 1970.
The Republican says the effort to review and update regulations will help eliminate red tape for citizens, businesses, nonprofit organizations, health care providers, educational institutions and cities and towns.
