NORCO, Calif. (AP) - A planed solar project at the Norco Navy base in Southern California will be delayed at least a year as defense officials complete other projects.
The Press-Enterprise reports (https://bit.ly/2cMgVW1 ) that the Navy has tabled a plan to install a 10- to 20-acre solar array that would have saved the base $65,000 per year. Construction had been set to begin as early as December.
In the meantime, defense officials are looking to complete other projects and research updated technology for the proposed solar site.
According to Navy spokesman Gregg Smith, the proposed project will be delayed until at least mid-2018 while officials consider alternatives that could make the array smaller.
Norco officials and residents had opposed the solar project, arguing that it might hurt local wildlife.
