Donald Trump received some bad news ahead of his visit to Colorado Monday after a new survey showed Hillary Clinton holds a double-digit lead over him in the state, thanks in part to strong support among minority voters.
The Monmouth University Polling Institute survey found Mrs. Clinton has a 49 percent to 38 percent lead over Mr. Trump among likely voters.
Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson received 7 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein received 3 percent. The remaining 3 percent said they were undecided.
“Some polls had suggested that Colorado was becoming more competitive. That may have been true last month, but it does not appear to be the case now. Clinton’s current lead is as comfortable as it was three months ago, which is probably why her campaign has not diverted a lot of resources here,” said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.
Mrs. Clinton holds a 71 percent to 17 percent lead among Hispanic, black and Asian voters and has a 45 percent to 42 percent edge among white voters.
President Obama won Colorado in the 2012 and 2008 races. President George W. Bush won the state in 2004 and 2000.
