KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The University of Tennessee has refused to release the names of three candidates seeking to become Knoxville chancellor.
The Knoxville News Sentinel (https://bit.ly/2eTKvJC ) reports the candidates are visiting campus in coming days.
State law requires universities to release candidate applications for chancellor and president searches once they become finalists. UT insists the three candidates scheduled for campus visits aren’t finalists
UT President Joe DiPietro said Friday the candidates are “in positions where their exposure as candidates here puts them at some risk at their home place.” He’s worried if the names quickly become public, it could “blow this whole search up” in terms of keeping them in the process.
Deborah Fisher, director of the Tennessee Coalition for Open Government, said UT’s position appears to be “a matter of just semantics.”
