SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - As many as 1,700 retired state employees could see a bump in their monthly pensions as a result of a conflict over back pay.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reported (https://bit.ly/2eGwG0o) Friday that the Public Employees Retirement Association is still trying to sort out which retirees are owed benefits.
The retirement association oversees pension funds for state, county and municipal workers along with judges and volunteer firefighters.
The state and employee unions have been locked in a dispute over a pay raise that was promised in 2008 but not applied correctly until after years of litigation.
The state Supreme Court ruled in favor of the unions in May 2013.
Deputy director Greg Trujillo says the agency expects to contact members in two months about revised pensions.
