Connecticut to receive $1.49 million in automaker case

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut is set to receive $1.49 million from a multi-state settlement with automakers Hyundai and Kia.

Both car companies were accused of misrepresenting mileage and fuel economy ratings for some of their model year 2011, 2012 and 2013 vehicles. Connecticut’s payment is part of a national $41.2 million settlement between 33 states, the District of Columbia and the two automakers.

Attorney General George Jepsen says the settlement resolves Connecticut’s claims that Hyundai and Kia misled the state’s consumers about the fuel economy ratings on window stickers and in advertising campaigns. He says the consumers should be able to trust the claims made by auto manufacturers about their vehicles’ gas mileage.

Connecticut’s share of the multi-state settlement will be deposited into the general fund, the state’s main spending account.
