LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) - An American teenager’s appeal to sign for Ajax was dismissed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Ajax says CAS upheld FIFA’s decision to block John Hilton’s intended signing for the storied Amsterdam club as a breach of youth transfer rules.
Hilton, now aged 15 and known as “Xuxuh,” played for Chivas USA and was linked to Manchester City before his family moved to the Netherlands in 2015.
Hilton appealed after a FIFA judge denied the Dutch soccer federation’s request to transfer his registration.
FIFA prevents under-18 players moving internationally with exceptions in some specific circumstances.
Transfers are allowed if a player’s family moves to a new country for non-soccer reasons.
Ajax says it played no part in the Hilton family’s relocation, but FIFA and CAS rejected their argument.
