OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An Oklahoma man charged with fatally stabbing a pregnant woman he met through Craigslist has been found guilty.

Joseph Cyr, 34, was convicted Thursday of two counts of first-degree murder, according to the Oklahoman (https://bit.ly/2dTZNta ). He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the deaths of 25-year-old Jaymie Adams and her unborn child.

Authorities said Adams, who was about eight weeks pregnant when she died, was engaging in prostitution before she disappeared Dec. 10, 2011. Her body was discovered Jan. 7, 2012, in southeast Oklahoma City.

Authorities said DNA evidence connected Cyr to the crime, however he denied killing Adams. The defense attorney said that while the DNA shows the two engaged in sexual activities, there is no evidence actually connecting Cyr to the victim’s homicide.

Adams’ husband, Justin, was originally charged with her death, but his charges were reduced to first-degree manslaughter. He received 10 years of probation after admitting that he and his wife used Craigslist to solicit sex. Justin Adams admitted to helping compose Craigslist posts and driving his wife to customers. Police said the couple used prostitution as a way to pay their bills.

“Jaymie Adams died a prostitute … the Craigslist prostitute,” Assistant district Attorney Ryan Stephenson told jurors. “But that doesn’t matter. … No one deserves to die the way Jaymie Adams died. No one deserves to have their body destroyed like that.”

Cyr did not testify in his defense during the trial.
