Hillary Clinton is the overwhelming favorite of Mexicans, according to a survey released Friday of attitudes about the U.S. presidential race in six countries.
Mexicans support Mrs. Clinton over Republican nominee Donald Trump by a margin of 96 percent to 4 percent in the findings by Pollfish, a mobile survey company.
Mr. Trump, of course, has promised to make Mexico pay for construction of a wall along the U.S. border to stop illegal immigration.
The survey also found that Hispanics living in the U.S. support Mrs. Clinton by 60 percent to 40 percent over Mr. Trump. An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll in mid-October showed Mrs. Clinton with a 50-point lead over Mr. Trump among Hispanic likely voters, 67 percent to 17 percent, in a four-way race.
In Russia, 48 percent of respondents in the Pollfish survey favor Mr. Trump, while only 15 percent support Mrs. Clinton, and 36 percent wouldn’t vote for either candidate. Mrs. Clinton has accused Mr. Trump of cozying up to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In the six countries combined — Mexico, Canada, Russia, France, Germany and the United Kingdom — voters overall prefer Mrs. Clinton by a margin of 60 percent to 24 percent for Mr. Trump. Another 26 percent wouldn’t vote for either candidate.
Eighty percent of those surveyed in all the countries believe that Mrs. Clinton would be better for international relations, including 97 percent in Mexico but only 28 percent in Russia. Seventy-two percent of Russians felt that Mr. Trump would be better for international relations.
The survey found that 63 percent of respondents were disturbed by Mr. Trump’s lewd comments about women on a tape made 11 years ago. In Mexico, 75 percent said it was evidence of sexual assault against women. In Russia, 75 percent said it was evidence of locker room banter.
The survey polled a total of 3,500 people — 500 in each of the six countries, plus 500 U.S. Hispanics.
