MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy says Republicans will undermine the Constitution if they continue to stall Supreme Court and other judicial nominees under a Clinton administration.
Some Republicans have been suggesting that if Hillary Clinton is elected, they’ll continue to block efforts to fill the Supreme Court seat vacated when Justice Antonin Scalia died early this year.
Leahy, a Democrat, is ranking member of the Judiciary Committee.
He says he hopes reasonable Republicans in the Senate will agree to perform their constitutional duty of advice and consent on court nominees.
