BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The winners of a $5 million business startup competition in Buffalo are set to be announced.
More than 540 startups entered the 43North competition, which was created by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to spur economic growth in western New York.
Ten finalists will present their ideas to a panel of judges on Thursday before the winners are announced at an awards banquet later in the day.
The top prize winner will receive $1 million in funding, while several runners-up will receive smaller amounts. All eight winners will receive free office space at the 43North business incubator in Buffalo.
The finalists include bioscience firms, software developers, vaccine makers, energy technology companies and other start-ups.
