SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - President Barack Obama has commuted the sentence of a Salt Lake City man serving time for a 2006 drug conviction.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2eVX30A ) Obama commuted the sentences of 98 federal inmates Thursday. Of those prisoners, the White House says 42 had been serving life sentences.
The Utah drug offender, Randall Moyer, was given a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted of trying to manufacture methamphetamine.
He was scheduled for release in 2021, but the 54-year-old will now be able to go home in October 2018.
The White House says Moyer’s early release is dependent upon his enrollment in drug treatment.
Court documents say federal agents raided Moyer’s Salt Lake City home in 2004 to find he had ingested meth and was making the drug in the garage.
