HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Coaches at Pennsylvania’s 14 state universities have reached a tentative contract agreement with the state’s higher education system, avoiding a previously authorized walkout.
The Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education announced the new four-year deal Thursday. The union says the contract includes salary increases and keeps health care costs affordable.
The union represents about 5,500 faculty and coaches at Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester universities.
Faculty union members reached a contract deal with the state system after striking for three days. The coaches had approved a strike but did not picket.
Union coaches had been working under contracts that expired June 30 of last year.
