Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump got testy with CNN’s Dana Bash on Wednesday after she questioned his campaign schedule.
During an interview at the opening of Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., Ms. Bash asked Mr. Trump why he was at his hotel’s ribbon-cutting instead of campaigning in key battleground states.
“For people who say you’re taking time out of swing states to go do this, you say?” the reporter asked.
“You have been covering me for the last — long time,” Mr. Trump began. “I did yesterday eight stops and three major speeches, and I’ve been doing this for weeks straight.
“I’m going to North Carolina right now, then I’m going to Florida, I’m going up to New Hampshire,” he continued. “For you to ask me that question is actually very insulting, because Hillary Clinton does one stop and then she goes home and sleeps, and yet you’ll ask me that question. I think it’s a very rude question, to be honest with you. And what I do is I want to back my children. My children worked very hard, Ivanka in particular. And at the opening of the hotel, I want to back my children. It’s very important to me.”
Mr. Trump said the most important thing to recognize about his new hotel was that it was built under budget and ahead of schedule.
“And if the country would do that, we would have a country that would be in much better shape,” he said.
Ms. Bash briefly responded to the Republican’s criticism before quickly moving on to the next question.
“And just so you know, I’ve been reporting on the fact that you’re going to North Carolina for a couple of stops straight from here,” Ms. Bash said.
