NBC’S Chuck Todd called in to a Chicago radio station Thursday and said new revelations about The Clinton Foundation dictate that it must close if Hillary Clinton is elected president on Nov. 8.
A 2011 memo to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta released by WikiLeaks prompted NBC’s “Meet the Press” host to urge the family to close CGI. The document, written by Teneo co-founder Douglas Band, laid out how his consulting firm secured deals worth tens of millions for the former president.
“Let me go to the bottom line: There is no way under any circumstance that The Clinton Foundation should be operating if she is elected president,” Mr. Todd said while appearing on The Steve Cochran Show. “I don’t see how they can keep that going. I just don’t.”
Mr. Todd said the one silver lining in the story is Chelsea Clinton’s apparent wariness of Mr. Band.
“The ease with which somebody apparently — if you give money to Clinton or the foundation you get personal face-time with Clinton — that’s what it looks like what was done here,” Mr. Todd said. “Doug Band has been a lightning rod in Clinton world for some time.”
The NBC host said he did not believe there was anything criminal going on with the foundation, but that its existence would be “problematic” if Mrs. Clinton were elected the next commander in chief.
“[Hillary has] an opportunity, again, if she doesn’t do half measures here, if they shut it down to at least limit the political damage,” Mr. Todd added, The Hill reported.
