MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The Latest on a University of Wisconsin student charged with sexually assaulting and choking a woman (all times local):
6:45 p.m.
Attorneys for a University of Wisconsin student charged with sexually assaulting an acquaintance are asking people to wait for the facts.
Twenty-year-old Alec Cook of Edina (ee-DYE’-nuh), Minnesota, is facing nine charges, including false imprisonment and strangulation, in a case involving a female acquaintance. Cook is expected to face additional charges after investigators say they were contacted by dozens of other women.
Cook’s attorneys said in a statement Wednesday that Cook “seemingly has been charged, tried, and convicted.” The attorneys add that “blind acceptance” of accusations “leads to the stigmatization of innocent people.”
Cook has denied the allegations. He’s scheduled to appear Thursday in Dane County Circuit Court.
