PHOENIX (AP) - A Flagstaff anesthesiologist has been sentenced to 3 ½ years in federal prison for tax evasion and ordered to pay more than $1.6 million in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service.
IRS officials say Dr. Gary Christensen received a 42-month prison term Tuesday followed by three years of supervised release.
Christensen was indicted in 2014 for concealing about $2.1 million in income from the IRS and failing to pay more than $562,000 in federal income taxes.
Five months ago, a U.S. District Court jury in Phoenix convicted Christensen on seven counts of willful evasion of tax assessment for 2004 through 2010 and two counts of willful failure to file a tax return for 2009 and 2010.
