MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Student Assistance Corp. will use a $2.4 million federal grant during the next five years for adult education and workforce development. Vermont’s three-member congressional delegation announced the grant on Tuesday.
Officials say it’s to be used to help workers get the skills they need to move into higher-level jobs.
Vermont has low unemployment compared to many parts of the country, but some residents continue to struggle to find good-paying jobs. And many employers say they have a hard time finding workers with the skills they need.
Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy, independent Sen. Bernie Sanders and Democratic Congressman Peter Welch say in a joint statement that the grant to the public nonprofit student aid agency is designed to help close that skills gap.
