EASTON, Mass. (AP) - A woman who works for the town of Easton has been charged with stealing about $20,000 from the union that represents municipal employees.
Prosecutors say 53-year-old Pamela Almeida, of Raynham, took the money in her role as treasurer of the Southeastern Public Employees Association. She works as a clerk for Easton’s Planning Department.
Prosecutors say a review of 21 months of bank records revealed that Almeida regularly drafted checks payable to herself from union funds for no legitimate reason. They say she wrote more than 30 checks to herself for around $20,000.
Union officials became suspicious recently and contacted police. The union represents municipal employees on Easton, Mansfield, West Bridgewater and Milton.
Almeida was held on $1000 bail after pleading not guilty to larceny at her arraignment.
