SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - There are a number of properties the city of Savannah has to contend with in its endless fight to eradicate blight.

On many occasions, the Savannah Morning News reports (https://bit.ly/2e6zGA4) the effort is impeded by legal hurdles or difficulties in finding a property’s owner.

However, that is not the case with the fire-blackened, two-story duplex that has been sitting vacant for years on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The city owns the dilapidated structure.

The city council will address issues with the building and consider action at its Thursday meeting.

Officials with the nonprofit Savannah Development and Renewal Authority believe the historic structure can be saved and have developed a plan to restore the building as an apartment duplex for middle class workers.
