Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is too convinced Hillary Clinton should be behind bars than to be bothered to laugh at her jokes.
Mr. Giuliani’s deadpan reaction to the Democratic presidential nominee’s barb at the Alfred E. Smith dinner last week made news headlines.
“Many don’t know this but Rudy actually got his start as a prosecutor going after wealthy New Yorkers who avoided paying taxes. But as the saying goes, ’if you can’t beat ’em, go on Fox News and call them a genius,’” Mrs. Clinton joked, failing to elicit even a smile from the former mayor.
Mr. Giuliani was asked Tuesday by host Dom Giordano on 1210 WPHT Philadelphia radio if he wanted to “take out a pair of handcuffs and hold them up at that point,” CNN reported.
“Well, I was U.S. attorney and assistant to the U.S. attorney for too many years to laugh at Mrs. Clinton,” Mr. Giuliani responded. “When I see her, I see her in an orange jumpsuit, I’m sorry, or at least a striped one. I’d have prosecuted her a year ago and probably convicted her by now.”
Mr. Giuliani said he’s “heartbroken” by the FBI’s investigation of Mrs. Clinton’s email practices and the Justice Department’s decision to close the investigation.
“She was found extremely careless in the handling of top security information, which is straight out of violations of the United States code,” the former mayor said. “She destroyed 33,000 emails, 13 cellphones after she got a congressional subpoena, which is about as straight out of ’obstruction of justice’ as you can find. She told the FBI that she didn’t know that “C” on a government document meant “Confidential,” she thought it was alphabetical order.
“She shouldn’t have been secretary of state if she didn’t know that,” he said. “That has to be a lie. She claims 37 times to the FBI she can’t remember things. That has to be a lie. Otherwise she has such a bad memory, she should really be going somewhere for memory lessons, not running for president of the United States.”
Mr. Giuliani, a top adviser to Donald Trump, has spent several months campaigning for the Republican presidential nominee.
Mr. Trump has said he would appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Mrs. Clinton if he wins the election.
