NEW YORK (AP) - New York City has hired the former chief information officer for the city and county of San Francisco.

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the appointment of Miguel A. Gamiño as New York City’s chief technology officer on Tuesday.

Prior to his San Francisco post, Gamiño was chief information and innovation officer for the city of El Paso, Texas.

Gamiño’s duties will include overseeing New York City’s broadband program. The mayor wants every resident and business to have access to affordable high-speed broadband service by 2025.
