STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi State has named Scott Wetherbee as the school’s interim athletics director while it continues its search for a full-time replacement for Scott Stricklin.

Stricklin left Mississippi State in September to become Florida’s athletics director. Wetherbee is currently Mississippi State’s senior associate director of athletics for external affairs.

Mississippi State President Mark E. Keenum said in a statement that the school needs “steady, experienced leadership” while the search continues for Stricklin’s replacement.

Keenum added: “With his background and institutional knowledge, Scott Wetherbee offers us that skill set. I deeply appreciate Scott’s willingness to serve the university in this important role during the search process.”
