NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez says he agrees next year’s LPGA women’s open should be moved from a New Jersey golf course owned by Donald Trump, but only if the tournament stays in the state.
Three Democratic U.S. senators sent a letter to the U.S. Golf Association encouraging them to move next year’s women’s open away from Trump National in Bedminster.
Menendez says he doesn’t agree with penalizing hardworking people in New Jersey who depend on the jobs that come from hosting the event.
He says if the USGA does move the tournament he “would expect them to relocate the tournament to another course in New Jersey.”
Trump was recorded in a 2005 video using vulgar language and apparently boasting of sexual assault and has been accused of unwanted sexual advances by women.
