Donald Trump said the “shocking” revelations that Hillary Clinton’s allies donated close to a half-million dollars last year to the campaign of the wife of a FBI official that helped oversee the investigation into her private email server is yet more evidence of how the system is “rigged” against him and how his Democratic rival is corrupt.
Mr. Trump highlighted the news at a campaign stop in Florida, where he is polling behinds Mrs. Clinton 15 days out from Election Day.
“It is absolutely disgraceful. It is absolutely terrible, and it is unbelievable how Hillary Clinton got away with the email lie, the email scam, the email corruption, but not at least we have a pretty good idea,” Mr. Trump said.
The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s political action committee gave $467,500 to Jill McCabe’s 2015 Senate campaign. Andrew McCabe, her husband, is deputy director of the FBI. The Democratic Party of Virginia also funneled more than $200,000 into Mrs. McCabe’s candidacy.
Mr. McAuliffe, a Democrat with strong Clinton ties, took office in 2014 and invested heavily the following year in Senate races in hopes of flipping control of the GOP-controlled chamber.
In a closely watched contest, Mrs. McCabe lost her bid to unseat incumbent Sen. Dick Black, one of the most conservative members of the legislature, and Republicans retained control of the chamber, a blow to Mr. McAuliffe’s chances of pushing through his legislative priorities.
Mrs. Clinton has a lead of nearly a 4 percentage points over Mr. Trump in Florida and is up almost 6 percentage points nationally, according to the Real Clear Politics average of polls.
