MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The Latest on a former state Justice Department official accused of waving his service weapon around and harassing his wife (all times local):

3:15 p.m.

A state Justice Department spokesman says the agency never investigated allegations that the agency’s former top detective waved his gun around and harassed his wife.

Former Division of Criminal Investigation Dave Matthews’ wife filed a request for a restraining order last year, alleging Matthews waved his service handgun around and had harassed her many times. She withdrew the request six days after filing it.

DOJ spokesman Johnny Koremenos says the agency learned of the allegations the day the restraining order was served but didn’t investigate since it was withdrawn so quickly. He added that the gun Matthews carried at work was his own and wasn’t state-issued.

Koremenos said Matthews’ transfer had nothing do with the allegations and his new job isn’t a sworn law-enforcement position so he no longer carries a weapon.

Court documents show the state Justice Department’s former top detective was accused by his wife last year of waving his gun around and threatening her.

Attorney General Brad Schimel last week moved Division of Criminal Investigation Administrator Dave Matthews into a policy adviser position, saying he wanted a different management style.

Court records indicate Matthews and Robin Matthews are embroiled in a divorce proceeding that began in 2014.

Robin Matthews asked a court commissioner in March 2015 for a restraining order and injunction against Dave Matthews. She said in a statement that Matthews had waved his service handgun around and harassed and intimidated her many times. She withdrew the action six days after filing it.

A DOJ spokesman and attorneys for both Matthews didn’t immediately respond to emails.
