ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York is setting aside $500,000 to encourage more school field trips to state parks.

State parks officials say they are offering grants to qualified public schools throughout New York to fund field trips to parks and historic sites for environmental, history or physical education.

The grant is available to students in kindergarten through 12th grade in public schools that get Title 1 funding for disadvantaged students.

State parks officials say more than 120 schools across the state have applied for grants so far.

New York has 180 state parks and 35 historic sites.
