FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - A Florence man has been indicted for murder in connection with the April shooting of his 77-year-old next-door neighbor.

The TimesDaily (https://bit.ly/2ex04s3 ) reported Monday that a grand jury issued the indictment against 33-year-old Alfonso Jarmon, of Florence, last month.

Jarmon is accused of fatally shooting Charles Perkins in the head on April 29 outside of Perkins’ home, which is next door to where Jarmon was living.

Three witnesses say Jarmon pushed Perkins, the victim pushed back and then Jarmon shot Perkins during a struggle. It is unclear what sparked the incident.

Florence detective Kevin Jackson says Jarmon denied all charges during questioning.

Jarmon’s court-appointed attorney Jean Darby has filed a motion for a mental elevation.
