CARIBOU, Maine (AP) - The National Park Service has approved a request by Maine’s state government and a regional school district to transfer land to allow for construction of a new school building.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins says the park service has agreed to transfer ownership of a section of Teague Park to the city and the school district so that a new school can be built near a current elementary school.

WCSH-TV (https://on.wcsh6.com/2exPlvF ) reports Teague Park will get grants from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, which is why the National Park Service became involved.

Collins, a Republican, was born and raised in Caribou and attended public schools there. She says the land swap deal would replace three outdated schools with a new building. The project still faces other hurdles.
