BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Teachers in Vermont’s largest school district have ratified a proposed contract that was reached hours before they were scheduled to go on strike.
Burlington teachers voted on the agreement on Monday. The union did not release the vote.
The agreement between the Burlington Education Association and the school board was reached Wednesday evening, hours before the strike was set to begin on Thursday.
The details of the one-year contract were not released pending approval of the deal by the Burlington School Board.
Union President Fran Brock says she’s please the settlement averted a strike and “also paved the way for all of us to work together on behalf of the city’s children.”
The Burlington School District has about 400 teachers and 4,000 students.
