SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah State University is officially amending its sexual assault policies to ensure victim confidentiality.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2elu8XW) that the USU Board of Trustees approved changes ensuring that victims can report an attack confidentially or anonymously.

Furthermore, victims will have amnesty from alcohol- and drug-related student code violations if their health or safety is at risk.

USU attorney Mica McKinney says the changes are already being practiced but they should be put in writing.

Under the policy, victims can request confidentiality if they are reporting an incident to a non-confidential source such as a faculty member.

USU officials have acknowledged the school “fell short” in how it investigated separate sexual assault allegations made by four women against the same football player last year.
