SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) - The city of Sheridan now has a city administrator to help oversee day-to-day local government operations.

After years of deliberation regarding the position, the Sheridan City Council voted unanimously this past week to hire Mark Collins as city administrator.

Collins comes to Sheridan from Laramie, where he served as the associate vice president for administration and local government relations at the University of Wyoming since July 2007. Prior to this position, he served as city manager for Laramie as well as Gunnison, Colorado.

The Sheridan Press reports (https://bit.ly/2e2b3pG ) that the city administrator position has been contentious with some arguing that the decision on whether to hire the position should have been left to the city’s residents. However, an effort to gather petition signatures to eliminate the position failed.
