MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A Minneapolis man accused of fatally stabbing his wife a year ago has been sentenced to nearly eight years in prison.

The Star Tribune (https://strib.mn/2ekXvHu ) reports that 52-year-old Wayne Watson, who pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, was sentenced earlier this month.

Authorities accused Watson of killing 53-year-old Flowera Ransom on Oct. 1, 2015. Watson called 911 that night to report that he had stabbed Ransom at their apartment. She was found on the floor with a stab wound on her neck.

Before sentencing, a victim advocate read a statement from Ransom’s brother. He wrote that his sister wanted to end her relationship with Watson and return to Oklahoma.

Watson apologized for his actions in court.
