MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia University says another effort to log volunteer hours is coming up this weekend with Make a Difference Day.

The Morgantown beautification project is on Sunday.

WVU kicked off the Million Hour Match last year in collaboration with Volunteer West Virginia and the Corporation for National and Community Service. The university invited state residents to match them in completing 1 million hours of community service to inspire learning and promote civic engagement.

The university says its efforts have resulted in more than a quarter-million documented service hours and more than $5 million invested into communities around the state.

During Welcome Week, WVU students took part in projects including flood relief, food insecurity, beautification efforts and other projects.
