BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a black Louisiana State University student says someone left a racist message on the back of a Halloween decoration on her and her roommates’ off-campus apartment door.
LSU junior Clarke Perkins tells The Advocate (https://bit.ly/2epecRf) that she contacted police after finding the derogatory phrase on Wednesday scribbled across the head of a decorative ghost she and her four roommates had hanging outside the door of their University House apartment.
Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely says they’re investigating the incident. LSU President F. King Alexander met with Perkins Thursday.
Perkins, who writes for the university’s student newspaper The Daily Reveille, suspects their apartment was targeted because of her politically-charged columns and because she’s been outspoken on social media about race-related issues at LSU.
