Before Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump busted each other’s chops in public at the Alfred E. Smith Dinner with some canned jabs, the two presidential contenders evidently shared a “touching” behind-the-scenes moment.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York said the Democrat and Republican nominees exchanged pleasantries after praying with him.

“After the little prayer, Mr. Trump turned to Secretary Clinton and said, ’You know you are one tough and talented women,’ and he said, ’This has been a good experience in this whole campaign as tough as it has been,’ ” Cardinal Dolan said on NBC’s “Today.” “And she said to him, ’Donald whatever happens, we need to work together afterward,’ “
