TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey’s economy added 3,300 jobs in September and the unemployment rate remained at 5.3 percent.

The state Labor Department on Thursday also released figures showing August jobs figures have been revised upward by 1,500, for a monthly increase of 3,700 jobs.

The jobless rate stayed steady last month after edging up slightly in August from 5.2 percent to 5.3 percent

Treasury chief economist James Wooster says the economy has had a net gain of 54,200 jobs over the past year and that the figures show a positive trend.

The state rate is above the national level of 5 percent.

Business, education and health services saw the biggest gains in September while leisure and hospitality and construction had the biggest contractions.
