AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to life without parole for murdering a South Carolina surgeon in Augusta after posting a Craigslist ad for sex.

News outlets report that the jury found Glenn V. Riggs II guilty Wednesday of malice murder, felony murder and armed robbery in the 2013 death of 60-year-old Thomas Mann of Barnwell, South Carolina.

Riggs said he intended to rob Mann when the doctor responded to Riggs’ Craigslist post and arrived at his home. Riggs testified he feared Mann was going to rape him, so he choked the surgeon and struck him in the head with a weight before dumping his body.

Prosecutor Audrey Lewis argued that Riggs never intended to let Mann out of his home alive following the planned robbery.
