BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The likelihood that a motorist will crash into a deer in North Dakota remains higher than in most other states.
State Farm’s annual ranking of states in terms of the likelihood of deer-vehicle collisions puts North Dakota 11th this year, up from 14th last year. West Virginia tops the list for the 10th year in a row.
North Dakota’s Game and Fish Department is reminding motorists to be on the lookout for deer as they drive, now that fall has arrived and young deer are dispersing from their home ranges.
October through early December is the peak period for deer-vehicle accidents. Most crashes happen around dawn and dusk, when deer are most often moving around.
