LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The Louisville Orchestra is making a comeback since filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2010.
The Courier-Journal (https://cjky.it/2dC5BJ4 ) reports that from 2013 to 2016, the orchestra’s season subscriptions have risen 60 percent, single ticket sales shot up 128 percent and income from tickets increased nearly 83 percent.
Orchestra executive director Andrew Kipe says the orchestra is bucking a national trend of declining subscriptions.
The orchestra had a $22,000 deficit last year and has seen reduced funding from Louisville Metro Government. The orchestra has a $6.8 million budget, an increase of nearly $1 million from two years ago, and has raised half of its $4.3 million fundraising goal.
The orchestra’s contract with a union covering 56 salaried musicians expired May 31. Contract negotiations are expected to take place next year.
