Midway through the fourth quarter on Sunday, Cleveland Browns running back Duke Johnson ran into a pile of Washington Redskins defenders and Browns linemen.
Johnson fumbled the ball, and the refs ruled that Washington recovered the ball. But, did they actually recover it?
It doesn’t appear they did in this video.
Last week the bogus taunting penalty. This week the phantom fumble. Johnson never lost the ball. How does this happen?? pic.twitter.com/Uo8JZ39Wu0

That does appear to be Johnson jumping right back up with the football in his hand. It doesn’t appear that the ball was fumbled at all, yet multiple players are in a pile scrambling for a ball, and the Redskins were given the ball.
Is there some other explanation or did the refs just mess this one up a bit?
