USU receives funding to launch sexual violence prevention

LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Utah State University has received federal funding to launch a sexual violence prevention program.

The Herald Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2e1rKlg ) that the U.S. Department of Justice has awarded the university a three-year, $300,000 grant from the Violence Against Women Office. The funds will go to create a safety net for victims of sexual violence.

USU’s Sexual Assault and Anti-Violence Information program coordinator Jennie Erazo says the grant money will be used to hire a part-time clinician and a part-time advocate for her office, will provide training to law enforcement on how to interact with victims of assault and will help create a peer education system that will train students about issues like bystander prevention and consensual sex.
