NAMPA, Idaho (AP) - A candidate running for sheriff in southwestern Idaho once shot a fugitive with rubber bullets while working as a licensed bail agent.

The Idaho Press-Tribune (https://bit.ly/2dnGbC9 ) reports that Robert Muse eventually pleaded guilty to inattentive driving after a judge dismissed his 2014 misdemeanor charge of unlawfully discharging a weapon inside city limits.

Muse, who is running as a Constitution Party candidate, faces incumbent Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue in the Nov. 8 election.

According to court records, Muse was out on surveillance in Nampa looking for a fugitive with an outstanding warrant and had been eluding police. Muse told police that the suspect came out of the alley on a motorcycle and Muse shot him because he thought he was going to get run over.
