LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada’s unemployment fell half a percentage point in September and now stands at 5.8 percent.

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported the fresh statistics on Wednesday.

The drop in the jobless rate came even though the state experienced a seasonally adjusted decline of 1,500 jobs in September. Nevada’s job count is now 2,000 higher than its pre-recessionary high.

Gov. Brian Sandoval praised the state for regaining even more jobs than the 186,000 it lost in the recession. He pointed to projects including a planned expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center as drivers of future, long-term job growth.
