Self-described lifelong Democrat Howard Schultz told CNN Wednesday that his choice for president, Hillary Clinton, has all but put away the president contest to be held 20 days from now, saying, “I am confident that Hillary Clinton will become the next president of the United States.”
“I think we are in need of civility, of unity, and the kind of authentic leadership that will unite the country, and what we do not need is division and vitriolic statements in which we are creating hatred or bigotry of any kind,” said Mr. Schultz, who twice voted for Barack Obama.
While a recent email dump by WikiLeaks revealed that Mr. Schultz was on a list of potential vice presidential running mates for Mrs. Clinton, the coffee chain chief insists he’s not brewing up any plans to seek elected office anytime soon.
“I’m not seeking political office at this time in my life,” he said. “I know Hillary and Bill Clinton well. I’ve been with them — I have great respect for them. I don’t think this was my time to be in the political arena.”
