Donald Trump said Wednesday that security officials have “no idea” who is responsible for the hacked political emails that are causing Hillary Clinton headaches on the campaign trail three weeks out from the Nov. 8 election.
The New York billionaire condemned any country that would try to meddle in U.S. elections, but disagreed with Mrs. Clinton’s charge that Russia is clearly behind the hacked emails that have been obtained by Wikileaks and that Mr. Trump has used in attacks against the Democrat.
“We have 17 … intelligent agencies, civilian and military, who have all concluded that these espionage attacks, these cyber attacks, come from the highest levels of the Kremlin and they are designed to influence our election,” Mrs. Clinton said. “I find that deeply disturbing and I think it is time you take a stand.”
Mr. Trump pushed back, saying Mrs. Clinton did not know whether it was Russian, China or someone else that hacked the emails.
“Do you doubt 17 military and civilian agencies?” Mrs. Clinton asked.
“Our country has no idea,” Mr. Trump answered, adding “yeah I doubt it.”
Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida warned Wednesday that Republicans should not play politics with the Wikileaks emails, though most Republicans have been silent on whether the leaks should be fair game or not in the election.
