WILKINSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Two men have been sentenced to 20- to 40-year prison terms after pleading guilty in a slaying that authorities said stemmed from a robbery in a Pittsburgh-area apartment.
Twenty-three-year-old Troy Miller and 27-year-old James Meek were sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to third-degree murder in Allegheny County Court. Both were also sentenced to concurrent five- to 10-year terms on robbery and conspiracy counts.
Prosecutors said the two intended to rob 31-year-old Anthony Garland to resolve a grudge when they went to his Wilkinsburg apartment in January 2015 on the pretext of buying marijuana.
Both defendants apologized to Garland’s family Wednesday. Meek said he hoped to “do something positive with my life and be there for my children. Miller said he was praying that over time “I can change my life.”
