LEVERKUSEN, Germany (AP) - Tottenham held off Bayer Leverkusen’s constant pressure in the second half to earn a useful Champions League point in a 0-0 draw on Tuesday.
Vincent Janssen hit the crossbar for Tottenham in the first half and Dele Alli had the follow-up tipped over, but Leverkusen had the better chances after the break.
Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris scooped the ball away on the line after an effort by Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez - with goal-line technology showing that the ball hadn’t fully crossed the line.
Monaco came from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw at CSKA Moscow and tops Group E with five points. Tottenham has four, Leverkusen three and CSKA two.
Unbeaten in the Premier League, Tottenham found the net in the 10th but Son Heung-min was ruled to have been offside while passing to Janssen.
Alli’s header off Kieren Trippier’s cross went close before Tottenham wasted its best chance of the match in the 39th.
Son began the move on the left and fed Alli, whose shot was blocked. The ball rolled to Trippier, who sent in another good cross. Janssen hit the crossbar and Erik Lamela pounced on the rebound, but goalkeeper Bernd Leno tipped it over.
Chicharito should have scored shortly after the break but Lloris caught the ball on the line, which was confirmed by goal-line technology.
Lloris also did well to palm away a shot by Charles Aranguiz.
Leverkusen, which plays Tottenham in two weeks at Wembley, now faces an uphill struggle after drawing all of its three first matches. It squandered a two-goal lead at home over CSKA and conceded an injury time equalizer in Monaco.
