PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The president of the Providence Firefighters Union says the union has reached a tentative agreement with the city on a new contract.
WJAR-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2eMomgF ) that Paul Doughty confirmed the deal in an email late Monday night, saying it would end more than a year of disagreement and save taxpayers nearly $15 million.
The deal must be approved by the Providence City Council.
The union and Mayor Jorge Elorza have been at odds over schedules and the minimum number of firefighters required per shift.
