PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has made a quick visit to Silicon Valley to visit a tech startup that has struggled in the last year and laid off many of its Arizona employees.
Zenefits offers online benefits management for small and mid-sized businesses and announced in November 2014 that it would create 1,300 jobs in the Phoenix area by 2017. But the company has had two rounds of layoffs this year and only about 400 Arizona employees.
Ducey spokesman Daniel Scarpinato says Zenefits announced it was hiring again in August. Tuesday’s visit to California was to help the company roll out its new benefits administration application.
Scarpinato says Ducey is supporting a major employer committed to the Phoenix market and tech-based, innovative businesses that he hopes to lure to Arizona.
